Gun
drilling is a process for machining deep holes with precise straightness,
roundness, size, and finish.
- A rotating tool (gun drill) is slowly fed into a work piece
- High pressure coolant, or cutting oil, is pumped through the
specially designed gun drill to the cutting edge
- The coolant carries the chips away along a flute, or groove, in the
gun drill
- The chips are carried to the chip box
- The chips and coolant flow along a chute to the coolant system
- In the coolant system, the chips are filtered from the coolant and
the coolant temperature is lowered in a heat exchanger
- A high-pressure pump sends the coolant back through the gun drill,
and the cycle repeats
We gun drill aerospace and
commercial hardware from space-age alloys of titanium, stainless steels
and Inconels, as well as steel and aluminum.
